QUEEN'S COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL

The High School section of the college is organized into four 'groups' in each year, Dyer, Heath, King and Rodgers, with approximately twenty-five to thirty students in each group. Students are taught in mixed ability groups except where they are grouped into ability sets for acceleration in some subject areas.

The curriculum for Grades Seven through Nine is generally geared towards preparing students to sit the national Bahamas Junior Certificate (B.J.C.) examination in English Language, Mathematics, General Science, Health Science, Religious Studies, Social Studies, Art, Craft and Home Economics. In addition to these, Junior students also receive instruction in History, Geography, Music, French or Spanish, Computer Studies, and Physical Education.

Students in Grades Ten through Twelve follow a core curriculum leading to the national Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education (B.G.C.S.E.) Cambridge Affiliated. The subjects taught are English Language and Literature, Mathematics, Religious Studies, Biology, History or Geography, French or Spanish, Computer Studies and Physical Education. Two additional subjects are chosen from a list of Chemistry, Physics, Accounts, Commerce, Art and Design, Craft and Music.

Since many of Bahamian students pursue tertiary education in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, the High School prepares its students to sit the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (P.S.A.T.), the Scholastic Aptitude Tests (S.A.T. I & II), Advanced Placements (A.P).

Facilities available to students in the High School include two computer laboratories, a Library, an Art and Craft Centre and specialist rooms for Music and Family and Consumer Sciences. The swimming pool and track and field facilities are shared with the Primary School.

An auditorium with a seating capacity of 2000 persons is used for whole school events and special programmes. Our school boasts the best school cafeteria in the country, named the QCafe that serves hot foods, pizza, sandwiches, salads and snacks. It also provides a colorful, clean and inviting dining area that seats approximately 250.
