ELC Academic Programme

Phase One

Phase Two

Queen's College ELC is inclusive.  We accommodate the needs of all students based on our resources and professional development of personnel.  Our teachers stimulate, motivate and generate the interest of all students in the classroom in readiness for learning. We challenge the slow-learner with special needs, accelerate the progressive and average student and advance the gifted and 'high-flyers' through play, centres, language, literacy and numeracy (skill and concept development). Learning takes place in a child-centered environment, focusing on thematic based, integrative curricula that supports and enhances children's learning.  The teacher-directed and non-directed activities for small group and individual students, as well as free-choice play and structured activities, a re all stepping-stones.  Such approaches and interactions allow our students to transfer learning, flourish and become lifelong learners.

  Phase One

'Collections Pre-K Nursery Rhymes' and 'CLAS' are two curricula that are used at Phase One level. 'Collection Pre-K' focuses on Nursery Rhymes to teach listening and speaking skills/ oral language development. 'CLAS', Classroom Listening And Speaking also emphasizes oral language development and communication skills. Both methods of teaching and learning are approached thematically. Students also engage in Learning Centres.  Learning is accelerated through literacy skills, handwriting, phonics and mathematical development. Additionally, students are also exposed to other subject domains based on appropriate theme or topic, while interacting in a playful learning environment.

Phase Two

Phase 2, Kindergarten Curricula: 'Collections for K-Classrooms' is an integrative, thematic approach to learning. 'Collections' is also a literacy-based program with special emphasis on language development. Subjects/lessons are taught using specified themes/topics that are child-centered. Through the linking of all subjects via a theme, students are better able to grasp more knowledge on a particular topic; integration of subjects through a thematic/topic approach broadens students' horizons. Students are more actively involved, engaged and exposed to diverse learning activities.  More knowledge is accessed and acquired as learning takes place. Learning Centres are the focal point with hands-on/minds-on activities for students' experiences. As a supplement, 'Discovering Me and My World' has also been adapted. This integrative method is based on Social Studies topics. Students are exposed to discovery, learning and understanding of self, and building relationships. The impact nurtures students to become responsible participants in society and to develop skills in critical thinking and problem solving. Students interact and engage in meaningful learning experiences concerning the social aspects of their world, while developing and grasping a variety of skills.
