Grades 7 & 8
During the first two years of high school
students attend double sessions of Physical Education twice
per week. Students become more expert in their skills and
techniques and learn how to apply them in a variety of
activities. They begin to understand what makes an effective
performance and how to apply these principles to their own
work and other's work. They also begin to realize and identify
the types of activity they prefer and take a variety of roles
such as leader and official.
The programme of study is divided into the

Grades 9 - 10
During these two years students fine tune
their understanding, confidence and performance.
Self-motivation will begin to be an applied principle and the
coaching and helping of peers to help demonstrate clearer
understanding of rules, tactics and breakdown of skills.
The programme of study follows that of the
lower Grades with the exception that Grades 9 & 10 students
have P.E. lessons only once per week.
Grades 11 - 12
During these last two years, students tackle
complex and demanding activities; applying their knowledge of
skills, techniques and effective performance. They decide
whether to get involved in physical activity that is mainly
focused on competing or performing, on promoting health and
well-being, or on developing personal fitness. They also
decide which role suits them best including performer, coach,
leader and official. The view of their skillfulness and
physical competence gives them the confidence to get involved
in activities out of school and in future life.

PHYSICAL
EDUCATION CODES OF CONDUCT
1. Participation is vital.
Every student must wear proper kit and participate to the
best of their ability.
2. Students unable to participate in physical education
activities must submit a written letter from the
parents/guardians explaining in detail why the student in
unable to participate in physical education lessons.
Forgotten kit, inclement weather, menstrual cycles are
unacceptable excuses. Students with long term medical must
submit a note to the PE staff which can be placed on file.
3. Students are to cooperate with one another and with the
Physical Education Department. Teamwork is essential to
ensure the smooth operation of sessions.
4. Physical Education equipment must be treated with care and
returned to its appropriate location.

INTER-HOUSE ATHLETICS
Queen’s College students enjoy participating in inter-house
sporting events organized by the Physical Education
Department. Students participate in four age categories and
represent their ‘house’ in any or all of the sporting
competitions. The four houses are Dyer, King, Heath and
Rodgers.
