Code of Conduct

Inter-House Athletics

The aims and objectives of the Queen's College Physical Department are:
  • To provide a balanced stimulating Physical Education curriculum which will appeal to the interests and abilities of all students
  • To help the physical development of students in the important period leading up to and including puberty and through maturation to adulthood.
  • To promote the development of skill and coordination through a structured Physical Education programme.
  • To increase aesthetic awareness and appreciation.
  • To enable every student to experience achievement and satisfaction through the medium of sport.
  • To encourage development both as an individual and as a member of society in interpersonal skills, coping mechanisms, and personal conduct and hygiene.
  • To contribute to the pupils intellectual development through the understanding of physical activities.
  • To enable every student to become water-efficient.
  • To instill a sense of ‘school-spirit’ and social responsibility.
  Grades 7 & 8

During the first two years of high school students attend double sessions of Physical Education twice per week. Students become more expert in their skills and techniques and learn how to apply them in a variety of activities. They begin to understand what makes an effective performance and how to apply these principles to their own work and other's work. They also begin to realize and identify the types of activity they prefer and take a variety of roles such as leader and official.

The programme of study is divided into the following areas:

bullet Striking and Fielding Games - Softball
bullet Invasion Games - Football, Basketball
bullet Netwall Games - Volleyball
bullet Swimming activities and water safety
bullet Athletic Activities - Track and Field, Cross Country
bullet Fitness Testing - 12 Minute Run Test

Grades 9 - 10

During these two years students fine tune their understanding, confidence and performance. Self-motivation will begin to be an applied principle and the coaching and helping of peers to help demonstrate clearer understanding of rules, tactics and breakdown of skills.

The programme of study follows that of the lower Grades with the exception that Grades 9 & 10 students have P.E. lessons only once per week.

Grades 11 - 12

During these last two years, students tackle complex and demanding activities; applying their knowledge of skills, techniques and effective performance. They decide whether to get involved in physical activity that is mainly focused on competing or performing, on promoting health and well-being, or on developing personal fitness. They also decide which role suits them best including performer, coach, leader and official. The view of their skillfulness and physical competence gives them the confidence to get involved in activities out of school and in future life.

During the last two years students have a choice of areas of activity:

bullet Dance Activities - Aerobics, Yoga
bullet Swimming Activities
bullet Games Activities - Football, Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Softball
bullet Athletic Activities - Track and Field (compulsory)
