Primary Years G Suite Pilot Project
On Thursday, January 3, 2019, the administration and teachers within Primary Years participated in a hands-on full day Professional Development Workshop with the G Suite for Education platform, led by Primary Years I.T. Teacher- Miss Zena Hutcheson. As a component of the pre-launch, the Primary Years Section received practical training on the goals of the Pilot Project and specific components of the G Suite Platform. Employees were able to collaborate and learn together in creating live documents, setting up cloud-based folders, utilizing an online learning management system (Google Classroom), creating cloud-based word processing documents and online forms. The Primary Years is committed to providing transformative learning and teaching opportunities, enabling students to develop and apply critical and creative thinking strategies and engage in inquiry through technology. “It is is crucial that our teachers are confident in using and applying the new technology to be introduced to our students. This workshop is one in a series of trainings on effectively using G Suite for Education. The level of student success with this project is also dependent on teacher competence with effectively implementing technology. Ensuring that our teachers receive the ongoing technology coaching will be a key component before and during the launch of the pilot.”- Zena Hutcheson.
The goals of the pilot project for our 4th and 5th grade students and teachers are to:
● promote learning and teaching in an online collaborative environment;
● inspire students to become creators and innovators;
● encourage learning beyond the physical classroom and regular school hours;
● and expose students to specific best practices in digital citizenship and online learning.
